Introducing New Fish
Follow these steps to minimize stress and ensure a smooth transition for your new fish!
-
Float the Bag: Place the sealed bag containing the new fish in the tank. This equalizes the temperature between bag and tank water.
-
Open and Add Tank Water Gradually: After about 5 minutes, open the bag and add a small amount of aquarium water into it every 5 minutes for 15–30 minutes. This helps the fish acclimate to the tank’s water chemistry.
-
Wait 15–30 Minutes: Let the fish adjust to the water temperature and chemistry gradually in the bag.
-
Release Fish: Gently release the fish into the tank without pouring the original bag water in.
Assorted Molly
This abundant livebearer is present in both freshwater and saltwater environments, spanning from the Southern United States to Columbia. They possess a sleeker physique than platies and can grow up to 4-5 inches (10-13 cm) in size. They exhibit excellent aquarium cleaning abilities, constantly foraging for leftover food and removing hair algae with their flat mouths.
They are a peaceful bunch most of the time but can show signs of aggression when crowded or surrounded by aggressive tank mates. Therefore, it’s important that their tank is big enough, and that they have suitable tank mates.
Diet and Feeding:
In nature, mollies are nearly exclusively plant and algae eaters, They enjoy eating algae growth in the aquarium, and will graze endlessly on it, looking for choice patches to nibble. If your aquarium lacks algae, you must provide “spirulina” flakes, special commercial Molly food, or small amounts of chopped boiled spinach.

The Molly is extremely peaceful, and makes an ideal
community fish.
