Focus Filter Setup
Maintenance:
- Wash the carbon cartridge in tap water before use. Do not use detergent or soap.
- It is important to never use tap water to clean filter components, as Chlorine/Chloramines in the tap water will wipe out biological bacteria and render the filter temporarily useless upon reconnection.
- It is recommended you fill a bucket of water (providing the water is not dirty) from your aquarium to rinse and clean filter components.
- Refer to maintenance tips provided in the instruction manual.

carbon cartridge. If the carbon cartridge is due for replacement, discard it. - Remove some water from the aquarium and rinse the sponge
(or Bio Cartridge) and carbon cartridge. - Rinse all other components of the filter to remove any debris or algae.
- Replace all equipment on the aquarium. Check that your hands and power plugs are dry, and turn power back on.
- Check that all equipment is working
correctly over the next half hour.
- Never rinse the Sponge or Bio Cartridge in tap water as this will disrupt the beneficial bacteria that live on the filter media and can lead to harm or death of the aquarium inhabitants.
- Take care not to lose small parts when
servicing the aquarium, especially when cleaning filter components at a sink.

Filter
- Check that the blades of the Impeller are not worn or damaged. If the blade section turns separately to the magnet, the Impeller is damaged and needs to be replaced.
- Check both the Impeller magnet and the inside of the Impeller well for damage. The surfaces should feel smooth. If not, they are damaged.
- Check that the Impeller turns in the impeller well. If it doesn’t turn or the Impeller cannot be removed from the well, the Pump may be damaged and need to be replaced.
- To test the electric coil in the Pump, remove the Impeller. Plug the Pump in (ensure everything is dry first!) and hold the Impeller magnet next to the Pump as shown. You should feel the magnet vibrate.
