Arjuna Pods are a natural botanical commonly used in aquariums and terrariums to enhance aesthetics and promote a healthy, natural environment. These pods come from the Terminalia arjuna tree, native to India, and are prized for their unique, elongated shape and warm brown tones. When placed in water, they release beneficial tannins that help lower pH levels slightly and soften the water, creating conditions similar to those found in tropical blackwater habitats.

Arjuna Pods are especially popular among aquarists who keep South American species such as Tetras, Apistogrammas, and Dwarf Cichlids, as well as shrimp and Betta tanks, due to their water-conditioning and biofilm-promoting properties. The biofilm that develops on the pods serves as a natural food source for shrimp and fry.

To prepare Arjuna Pods for aquarium use, they should be boiled for 10–15 minutes to remove excess tannins and to ensure they sink easily. Once added to the tank, they will gradually darken the water and release nutrients beneficial to aquatic life. Each pod typically lasts several months before decomposing naturally.

Beyond their practical benefits, Arjuna Pods also add a naturalistic aesthetic to aquascapes, providing shelter and foraging areas for small fish and invertebrates. They can be used alone or combined with other botanicals such as Indian Almond Leaves and Catappa Bark to recreate a realistic riverbed or forest stream setting.
